# Maker Faire

## Hello maker!
Welcome to the Western Pyrotechnic Association, Inc.(WPA). We are a non-profit club focused on the art of pyrotechnics. Our members range from home hobbyists to pyrotechnic professionals and everywhere in between. Our goal is to share knowledge so our members can build their own pyrotechnics.

## Our Events

We meet at several events every year. The most accessible to the general public is our event, Western WinterBlast®, held over President’s Day weekend in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. This event features a range of immersive experiences, including seminars, hands-on manufacturing workshops, live product demonstrations, social events to help us become more familiar with our fellow attendees. A full schedule of our events can be found using the button below.

Our next event will be February 12-17, 2025 at SARA Park, Lake Havasu City, AZ. For more information, visit our [Western WinterBlast](/events/winterblast) page.

## Hands On Seminars

The Western WinterBlast has seminars where you can learn how to build a mortar shell, how to build a comet, how to paste a mortar shell and prepare it to be fired into the sky. You can learn how to build giant rockets and make fireworks shells bigger than you will see in any other fireworks show.

## Nightly Displays

We bring in outside pyrotechnic companies to display shows you will only see at a fireworks competition. The shows feature pyrotechnics you don’t see in typical shows for a variety of reasons. This includes rockets, italian style mortars, amazing comets and girandolas, a firework that spins into the air and seems to hover! Some of the more spectacular effects include ghost mines that display translucent fireballs in a variety of colors. Members regularly build shells 12, 16, even 24: in diameter which are no longer seen in fireworks shows in much of the world.

## Build your own Shells

Once we set you on the path of learning how to build fireworks, you are free to build your own pyrotechnic devices. You can order your own stars and effects to build a shell and fire it for your own display.

## PIT Crew

Pyros in Training (PIT) is the WPA’s youth and family education program. PIT is a seminar and workshop series targeted at families and youth members, but is open to anyone who wants to learn about the basic science and techniques involved in pyrotechnics. It teaches how to build pyrotechnic effects, how to plan a show, how to set up a display.
